Christopher John Grice – Education – Mountain Leader

Christopher was educated at Hull Grammar School, University College, London, St Mary's College of Education, Twickenham and Sheffield University.

For a period of time, Christopher was a teacher of Geography (Head of Department) and Physical Education. He was also a Moderator for CSE Mode 3 examinations with the Yorkshire Regional Examination Board. He obtained his Mountain Leadership Certificate in 1976. Following this award, he became a leader of school 'Outward Bound' expeditions and field trips. On top of this, he was a coach to U16 County and Humberside Fire Brigade volleyball squads.

Christopher re-trained at Sheffield University and gained an MSc in Organisation Development. He took up a position with Grimsby and Portsmouth Health Authorities as Personnel and Training Officer in the NHS, where he was the author of a Manager Development training programme and performance Management documentation for Health Care Professionals. He became a member of a team using Outdoor Activities in Management development.

Christopher also became leader of a Health Care Team at the Industrial Society, as well as becoming a member of the Institute of Personnel and Development. He gained a Certificate of Occupational Safety and Health, and was a specialist in Performance Management Leadership and Health and Safety.

From this position, Christopher moved on to running his own Independent Consultancy, and has been very active in the development of workplace expedition clubs. He is a regular visitor to the Yorkshire Dales and North York Moors, his favourite area of England.
